It may come as a surprise to many that pirate vessels tend to be run democratically. The pirate venture requires that each man be willing to undergo severe hardships and endure violent dangers, in order to perhaps achieve a comfortable retirement. They have to depend on each other for survival, and consider each other as equals in the dangerous undertaking they have joined – a company of fellows. All pirates are required to sign the articles of conduct, so that everyone knows what is expected, and what they will receive for their work. They may live outside the law of the land, but they are bonded together, and live by a law of their own, which is respected and followed by them all.
Many decisions on the ship are arrived at by majority vote. One of the most important votes is to be made by the captain. The captain's orders are final in the case of a battle or similar situation. But apart from that, the captain will not necessarily make the decision on important matters, it could be decided by a majority vote. This level of independence and freedom is frequently much greater than a citizen under a feudal system can expect. However, when a person decides to walk away from a conventional life, and sign the articles of a ship such as the captured pirate ship Tibianic, they know that the chances of returning to their former way of life are small. Once you become a pirate you're bound to the code.
Below the code of conduct of the pirates of Tibia are provided. As a pirate these
rules are above the tibian rules and any other law you'll
come across. When rules are breached, the crew are often
without pity or remorse in punishing a guilty crew member.
Although in cases of particularly useful pirates such as
skillful fighters, exceptions are inevitably made.
Code of conduct:
- Every man shall pay attention and obey the captain in
any situation. If the orders are not carried out correct
because of not paying attention, you will have to suffer
from such punishment as the captain and the company shall
think fit.
- If any man shall offer to run away during battle or
openly reveal secrets in public regarding the business of the pirates that man shall be excluded and hunted until there is nothing left
of him. The captain may make such decision that will spare the pirate's life if the pirate has contributed much for the piracy in the past, nevertheless in such case the person will most likely be marooned to face the world by his own.
- Every man has the right to a part of the treasure. The
treasure is divided equally but if there is gold or any
jewelry that can not be shared it will be without any
further discussion become part of the captain's share. If
any pirate is caught by taking a larger part than he
should he will be cut off from his share and found
himself with empty hands. The captain and the company
also have a chance to agree with another further
punishment if they find it necessary.
- That man that miss to pay the monthly fee of 5000 gold
will be given 30 days to be able to pay his debt to the
company. However, each day that passes the fee will
increase with 1000 gold. If the man does not pay his
debt in 30 days he will be given a punishment that
the captain and the company shall think fit.
- When returning to the ship from invidual adventures
througout the world a written report by each man must
be made if there is any chance that their actions during
the time in land could cause problems for the company.
If secrets are found to be kept away from the captain
and the company, the man will need to pay twice the
guildfee the 15th that month. Incase the man refuses to
do so or in critical situations where the whole company
might be endangered the man shall be excluded to face
the forthcoming problems alone.
- If any man shall steal from the company he shall be marooned or face present death.
- If at any time a pirate will meet with a woman, that man that offers to meddle with her, without her consent, shall suffer present death.
- That man that shall make an extraordinary effort to build and develope the pirate movement for it's better or takes an active part of a successful move in any area such as in battle shall be rewarded with a distinction that the captain shall think fit.
